The Hockey World Loses a Beautiful Soul

Published

This past spring little Benny Stelter stole the hearts of the hockey world and inspired his team, the Edmonton Oilers, to their best season since the 2005-06 campaign. Diagnosed with brain cancer, Benny fought valiantly but sadly lost his battle on Wednesday, August 10rh. Although Benny’s life was a short one, his journey was one that inspired thousands and captured the hearts of the hockey world.

I had the immense pleasure of meeting this young warrior and his beautiful family in June during the NHL’s Western Conference Finals. I was joined by my friend Carl Poole and five Humboldt Bronco survivors (Derek Patter, Ryan Straschnitzki, Brayden Camrud, Tyler Smith,, Graysen Cameron) as we collectively lent a helping hand to this special crew. It was a night none of us will forget and will cherish forever.

The news is devastating and breaks my heart and as a father and grandad it makes me think of my own beautiful family as I struggle for the right words to deliver to Mike and Lea, Ben’s parents.

Please join me in giving the Stelter family my deepest sympathies in this difficult time.

Hug yours today.
