Hilary McNeish – FRFO Dawg Nation 2026 recipient
Hilary McNeish has been deeply involved in the Colorado hockey scene since she was a teenager. She’s an Avs superfan, missing only 15 Avalanche home games since the team moved here in 1995. Hilary started playing when there weren’t many opportunities for women in Colorado. Her goaltending supported both WACH B1 and A1 championship teams, and she played with various teams over the years, until her cancer diagnosis forced her to hang up her skates in 2023.
Hilary has had an extraordinary impact on the Colorado women’s and girl’s hockey community. She is one of the founding members of the Denver Women’s Hockey League and led the WACH Board for many years. Hilary also dedicated well over a decade to youth hockey as an assistant coach and goalie coach with Arvada Hockey and Colorado Girls Select. Additionally, she was a CAHA State Selection Camp Evaluator, participated in the 2008 Lake Placid Special Invite Coaching Seminar with the USA Women’s National Team, and coached at Bela Hockey Girls/Women’s Camps with Olympians Chanda Gunn, Cammi Granato, and Hilary Knight (yes, that Hilary Knight). There are few, if any, women who have had as much impact on girls and women’s hockey in Colorado. Please help us support Hilary in her fight against ovarian cancer so she can get back on the ice!
