At the 2026 Tee It Up for Dawg Nation Golf Tournament, we kicked off the day by presenting Joe with a check for $5,200, thanks to the incredible generosity of the Dawg Nation community.
For more than a decade, Joe has been a familiar face in Colorado hockey as a highly respected CIHRA referee. For years, he has dedicated countless hours to the game, helping create a safe and enjoyable experience for players, coaches, and fellow officials. Whether working youth games, adult leagues, or special events, Joe has always been someone the hockey community could count on.
Recently, Joe has been facing significant health challenges involving both his heart and lungs. These ongoing medical issues have limited his ability to get on the ice and earn a living doing something he loves. As if the health concerns weren’t enough, mounting medical expenses and unexpected vehicle problems have created additional financial strain during an already difficult time.
Joe was nominated by fellow referee and longtime friend Dave Cohen, who has witnessed firsthand both Joe’s dedication to hockey and the challenges he has faced over the past several months. Dave was also present at the golf tournament as Joe received his check and saw the hockey community rally around one of its own.
The $5,200 raised on Joe’s behalf represents much more than financial support. It is a reminder that the hockey community appreciates everything Joe has given to the game over the years and that he doesn’t have to face these challenges alone.
For years, Joe has been there for the hockey community.
Now, the hockey community has the opportunity to be there for Joe.
We are grateful to every donor, sponsor, golfer, volunteer, and supporter who helped make this gift possible. Their generosity is helping Joe focus on what matters most: his health, his recovery, and getting back to doing what he loves.
Joe, we are honored to welcome you as a Dawg Nation recipient and proud to stand beside you during this journey.
Play Hard. Play Fair. Give Back. 🏒❤️
