Three years ago, Hunter Murphy was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer. To save his life and preserve his ability to stay active, doctors replaced a significant portion of his right leg with a custom titanium implant.
Most people would have viewed that as the end of their athletic career.
Hunter saw it differently.
Refusing to let cancer define him, Hunter returned to the sport he loves and became a National Champion sled hockey player, inspiring teammates, coaches, and everyone around him with his determination, positivity, and resilience.
Unfortunately, Hunter’s fight is not over.
Recently, doctors discovered that his cancer has returned. The disease has spread into his lung and once again affected his leg. As a result, Hunter is currently undergoing chemotherapy and faces another life-changing surgery. In November, he will undergo an amputation of the lower portion of his right leg as part of his treatment plan.
Despite everything he has endured, Hunter continues to show up with the same positive attitude that has made him such an important member of the Dawg Nation and Hockey Heals families.
One week he is receiving treatment in the hospital.
The next week he is back at Hockey Heals, smiling, skating, competing, and reminding all of us what courage truly looks like.
Hunter’s strength has inspired an entire community, and now that community is rallying around him.
Dawg Nation is raising funds to help support Hunter and his family as they navigate the difficult road ahead. Donations will help offset medical expenses, travel costs, treatment-related expenses, and the significant financial burden that comes with a long-term cancer battle.
Additionally, we are hoping to help fund a specialized prosthetic leg designed for skating and hockey, giving Hunter the opportunity to continue doing what he loves most long after his recovery is complete.
Hunter has never stopped fighting.
Now it’s our turn to fight alongside him.
Please consider making a donation to support Hunter and his family. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference and help provide hope, opportunity, and support during this difficult chapter.
Together, we can help Hunter continue proving what he shows us every day:
Cancer picked the wrong kid.
