Hangin’ with her Heroes

Published

A couple of months ago Quincy Rohrbach had graduated Ponderosa High School and was excited to start the next chapter of her life at the University of Wyoming. That’s when an intense pain in her shoulder sent her in for a checkup. This beautiful 19 year old dynamo and her family were rocked to the core when the diagnosis of bone cancer was shared by the doctors. It’s not been as easy summer for Quincy, but you will not find someone with a better attitude and a stronger will to conquer. Currently battling stage four cancer, Quincy faces a lot of tough days ahead and nobody deserves a special day more than her. And today I had the immense pleasure of working with the Colorado Avalanche in giving this terrific young lady a day she will never forget. This one only happens with the unselfish work of Talia Hejda, Jan Hejda and Brendan McNicholas, all of who played instrumental roles in this memorable day. Quincy met literally every player, head coach Jared Bednar, team president Joe Sakic, and even Avs announcer Peter McNab, who is also battling cancer. Quincy’s smile never left her face as she met virtually all of her hockey heros! But perhaps the the most powerful moments came when Quincy and Peter shared their respective stories of chemo, hair loss, appetite, uncertainty, fear, but most importantly, hope. Here’s to you Quincy, you’ve got this!!!
