Giving Back to Evan Davis

Published

We were able to surprise Evan Davis with a check for $5,000 to assist him in his battle with cancer. The Monkey Barrel was kind enough to provide an epic setting to present the check, with Evan thinking he was just coming to watch the Avs take on the Las Vegas Golden Knights. It was another pretty special one as we once again witnessed the power of a community coming together. This included former pros Jan Hejda and Gabe Gauthier lending their time and advocacy to support Evan and DAWG Nation. Evan is in the home stretch of his battle with cancer and we can’t wait to welcome him to the next Survivor game!! Everyone was a winner that day, our donors saw their generosity in action, Evan was surrounded by a loving and supportive community, and the AVS won!

A hockey player in a hockey family

Evan is a longtime hockey player in Colorado. He played youth hockey in the DU Junior Pioneers program and went on to play for the Littleton Hawks where he was part of the 2010-2011 Midget Major AA State Championship team. He would continue his hockey journey playing junior hockey with the Texas Junior Brahmas in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL).

He continues to be an avid hockey fan and is a DU Pioneers season ticket holder with his dad Phil and sister Katy. Evan and Phil also travel to the Frozen Four NCAA National Hockey championships every year where they had the pleasure of watching in person DU win the 2017 National Championship in Chicago.

The Diagnosis

At age 28, Evan was diagnosed with Stage 1, Grade 3 Breast Cancer. With a massive growth rate of 68%, Evan went through a double mastectomy. He has been undergoing chemotherapy for the last 7 months and will continue the treatments until March, 2021.

Evan is currently winning his battle with cancer, and he is determined to play in the Survivor Game at the next DAWG Nation DAWG Bowl Hockey Tournament. His mother and father have both survived cancer. Evan has insurance, but even with the insurance the medical bills of co-pays and deductibles keep piling up and will continue to do so which can provide a lifetime of financial hardship.

Thank you for joining DAWG Nation in rallying to help this fellow hockey player. We lifted some of the burden through your generous donation today.
