DAWG Bowl VIII Recap

Published

A most memorable and successful event!

When all was said and done, DAWG Bowl VIII was the most memorable and successful event in our storied history. Setting records on all fronts the weekend was once again filled with hugs, smiles, cheers, and of course, tears! This year’s event was showcased with the inclusion of a Humboldt Bronco theme as the hockey world continues to heal from tragic events that occurred on April 6th in Saskatchewan.

Coach Graysen Cameron

Graysen 6025

We were blessed as Humboldt Survivor Graysen Cameron joined us for the four day tournament. Graysen was a forward for the Broncos and suffered a broken back in the fateful accident. The injuries have ended Graysen’s playing career but not his hockey career. He has his sights now set on a coaching career and we gave him his first assignment behind the bench of the Mainline West Top DAWGs! Graysen definitely has a future leading the troops as he guided our Top DAWGs to championship game in the Platinum Division.

The highlight of the weekend.

DAWG Bowl VIII Survivor Game

Once again the highlight of the weekend was the annual Survivor Game. This year the incredible people that make up the Survivor rosters donned Humboldt Bronco sweaters. The pregame included a tribute to those who passed and encouragement to those on the mend.

Sled Hockey Exhibition

Sled Hockey
Scott Mayfield

There was a special sled hockey exhibition featuring members of the US paralympic development team. Most all are former military personnel who were injured in service to our country, including Army Ranger Josh Hargis who has mentored Humboldt’s Ryan Straschnitzki. Ryan has expressed a desire to play sled hockey. Also playing was Scott Mayfield, a star defenseman with the New York Islanders, who gave it a try and found it’s not easy!

Giving Back

True to our motto of PLAY HARD, PLAY FAIR, GIVE BACK we provided four families in need some much deserved help, handing out over $80,000 over the course of the weekend.

Thank you to all of our sponsors, participants, volunteers and supporters. We can’t do this without you!!
