Saturday was another long one, but worth every second. Up at 5 am and off to the Promenade Ice Centre for the fourth annual CLASH 3v3. Our diligent team of amazing folks set up rinks, tables, auction items, signage and stuffed bags as the players started arriving for the bright and early 7:15 am puck drop. Throughout the day I was blessed to share the ice with inspirational teammates and opponents that have overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. My feet were feeling it after being in skates for nine plus hours but honestly that’s a very small price to pay for opportunity to spend the day surrounded by miracles.
Lots of heartwarming stories and inspiring tales, but yesterday truly belonged to Anze Nelimark. The nineteen year old recently lost his entire family (mother, father, brother) in a tragedy that nobody should endure. Our goal was a simple one, let Anze know he is loved and that he still has a family, a hockey family. Anze’s smiles and laughter let us all know that he was able to enjoy the day and just be kid again, even if it was just for a few hours.
The icing on the cake came after the tournament wrapped up and we were able to hand out checks totaling $46,000!!! Wow!
Thank you all that continue to support and allow me to live this magical life that gives me so much meaning. It truly was a great day to be a Dawg!
