No coincidences

Sometimes “no coincidences”happen when you least expect them. On day two of our Hawaiian anniversary celebration, Cindy booked us a sunset catamaran dinner cruise. We anticipated seeing some amazing sites and enjoying a few hours along the stunning Kauai coastline. What we didn’t anticipate is meeting someone that would bring us to tears. Jayce Politski was wearing a few hats as a member of the catamaran crew and I personally noticed him right away. He had a great smile and a welcoming presence, and I thought, “he looks like a great guy”. As Jacye took our drink order he asked where we were from and that is where it started. Turns out, Jayce played hockey at Colorado College and of course we had mutual friends! We snapped a picture and shared a couple of laughs.

A bit later I asked him about his life after hockey, Jayce told me that earlier this year he had lost his only child, Paxton, to a rare form of leukemia. He showed us a tattoo in honor of his son and let us know he passed at 1:43. Incidentally “1 4 3” in a text means “I love you”. As our new friend headed back to his duties I looked at my Cindy as tears streamed down her cheeks. She looked at me and said, “we are on this cruise for a reason, and I think the reason is to help Jayce.”

This is exactly why DAWG Nation exists and exactly why this this path was chosen for me. I can’t help but think a little fella named Paxton met my friend Don a couple of days ago and probably said, “hi Don, my name is Paxton, there are no coincidences.” 🙏❤️
