Dawg Nation and the Humboldt Broncos

Since 2018 DAWG Nation Hockey Foundation has maintained an ongoing, active relationship with the Humboldt Broncos organization and community — providing emotional and practical support, community programming, player scholarships, and collaborative events (including sled-hockey appearances and visits). DAWG Nation’s involvement grew out of support for the Broncos following the 2018 bus crash and has become an annual tradition that includes fundraising, scholarships, community events, and programs that bring Broncos players and the Humboldt community together.

Over the years, the foundation’s involvement has continued through annual visits to Humboldt, where Dawg Nation hosts “Hockey Heals” events, sled-hockey demonstrations, and community gatherings that foster connection and hope. The foundation has also made education a cornerstone of the relationship, presenting annual scholarships to Humboldt Broncos players — including three $5,000 awards in 2025 — to support their continued education and development both on and off the ice.

Dawg Nation’s signature “Wrap Around Effect” extends beyond financial aid, offering mentorship, friendship, and a sense of community that endures long after the headlines fade. This ongoing bond has been celebrated through media coverage and stories such as “Dawg Magic in Humboldt” and “The Humboldt Embrace,” which capture the spirit of unity between the two organizations.

Together, Dawg Nation and the Humboldt Broncos continue to demonstrate how compassion, teamwork, and the love of hockey can transcend borders, inspiring healing and hope across communities in both Canada and the United States.

Broncos Stories

Spencer Bell’s rise with the Humboldt Broncos is the embodiment of hard work meeting opportunity. In his final season of junior “A” hockey he scored 40 goals in 49 games and amassed 75 points, ranking among the top players in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL).

In February of 2025, DAWG Nation awarded scholarships to two Broncos players — and Spencer was among them.

That scholarship wasn’t just a number — it helped provide him resources and support as he prepared for the next phase of his career, culminating in his commitment to St. Lawrence University for the 2024-25 season.

Spencer’s story is powerful: from junior hockey standout to NCAA Division I commitment, backed by a foundation that believes in more than just performance — they believe in people.

Cage Newans brings leadership and heart to the Broncos organization, and his journey reflects his character. A longtime Bronco, he served as team captain and accumulated an impressive stat line over his tenure.

In the same scholarship event, DAWG Nation awarded Cage alongside Spencer, reinforcing the foundation’s investment in future hockey-leaders.

Cage’s story is about more than numbers — it’s about the impact he makes both on and off the ice: how a foundation and a team can support a young athlete’s development and set them up for success in academics and hockey.

Landen Stromme is a true leader. A native of Choiceland, Saskatchewan, he was named captain of the Broncos in the 2024–25 season, a recognition of both his on-ice grit and off-ice character.

DAWG Nation’s supports for the Broncos extend to Landen not just as a player, but as a person — their scholarship program helps foster leaders like him who embody hard work, teamwork, and a commitment to community. Through DAWG Nation’s backing, Landen has been able to lean into his role as captain, mentor younger teammates, and continue to grow in both his athletic and personal development.
