Working hand in hand with Craig Fitzpatrick, Dan Schramm and Colorado Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA), we spent the afternoon introducing hockey to an amazing group that felt access to the game we love was unattainable. The APEX ice was filled with members of the Colorado Center for the Blind, many that had never put on ice skates until today! Smiles and laughter were in abundance as new skaters beamed with pride as they accomplished things they didn’t realize was possible. Among the volunteers were several members of the Ralston Valley High School squad. These young men did a fantastic job as they were each paried with a blind skater. One player shared, “it’s incredible what people can do when given the chance.” Yup, HOCKEY IS FOR EVERYONE!
