Eights are Wild!

The day began with a 5 am wake up call in Colorado to clear a foot and a half of snow and ended with a “no coincidences” story book ending in Melfort, Saskatchewan.

Many memories were made along the way, but I knew it was going to be a special night when my ticket to the Humboldt Broncos vs Melfort Mustangs read row 8, seat 8. The magic began as the Broncos head coach, Brayden Kilmosko, asked me to deliver the starting lineup before his squad took on the league’s top team. After a shaky start the Broncos gained their footing and clung onto a precarious 3-2 lead as Melfort desperately looked for the equalizer which cane with 22 seconds remaining. Undeterred, the visiting Broncos pulled off the unlikely upset victory with a show of pure determination!

Now here’s the “no coincidences” part. The Broncos captain, Landon Stromme wears number 8, the same number as yours truly and every other Dawgs captain. The Broncos #8 also scored the first two goals for Humboldt and then put the icing on the cake wirh the thrilling shootout game winner!

What a day, and what a way to kick off an epic weekend!!
