CLASH 3v3

Some pretty special moments made up a memorable Saturday at the 2025 “CLASH 3v3”. Topping the list was skating with Ashton “Ash” Stephenson. Ash suffered a life changing car accident in the fall of 2022 that left him clinging to life and without the use of his legs. Soon after I met this remarkable young man and his wonderful parents at Craig Hospital as Ash was beginning a long an arduous recovery. That visit also began a special bond and a journey that started with the pleasure of helping rally the hockey community to aid Ashton and his family. And now that path has come full circle as Ashton serves an integral role in the tournament that bears his name.

There were lots highlights on Saturday, but two stood above.

First playing with Ash on our “Inclusive Dawgs” squad. A team that consisted of blind players, a sled player (Ash), adults with intellectual and developmental challenges, and yours truly. If having the honor of playing with these amazing teammates wasn’t enough, watching Ash “light the lamp” was definitely the icing on the cake!

The second moment came at the post tourney party when we were able to present a check to Christina and Mike Wiegert. Christina is battling breast cancer (and winning!). Ash chose this deserving family as the 2025 CLASH recipient and shared his gratitude to the room full of players, volunteers, sponsors and hockey families.

I’m super proud of Ashton as he “pays it forward”, also sand beyond honored to change lives with him! Way to go buddy!
