Busy day changing lives!

July 30, 2022
It was an exhausting one, but yesterday once again showed me the best in humanity. A 6 am wake up call, a hour drive to Butfalo Run to play the Tscherpel Strong golf tourney as we raised dough for my buddy Dave Tscherpel. Who, by the way, is kicking cancer’s ass!! Lots of laughs, and some “so-so” golf thrown in, it was a fantastic and memorable time. Then it was the hour drive back for a quick …

Wednesday morning skate means more to these guys than most.

July 27, 2022
Been a while since I skated with this amazing crew. Dave Carr is lucky to be alive after a head on crash in 2020, Nathan Abelein’s wife was told to make arrangements because her husband wasn’t going to survive COVID, Patrick Donnely gets up every day with a battery keeping his heart beating, and Van Stone is simply incredible. A traumatic brain injury made the simplest tasks a major chore, toda…

Look up ‘Tough’ in the dictionary, you will see a picture of Cooper Tippett

July 27, 2022
It’s a big day for my little buddy and he could use your prayers, good vibes, and positive energy. Facing his sixth, and most challenging surgery to date, Cooper “Coop” Tippett is nervous, a little scared, but completely trusting of the incredible medical team that will conduct the complicated procedure in Delaware this morning. Due to Morquio Syndrome (also known as MPS) Coop faces daily chall…

Roommates for life!

July 24, 2022
It was another epic weekend with my road-trip roomie!! Jannie makes me laugh, makes me think, makes me smile, and makes me glad that we are friends. We burned it on both ends with drinking, eating, golfing, fishing, playing and changing lives! Pretty exhausting, but wouldn’t trade it for the world. Jan, thank you for always making the time for others, you’re the best!

Top Dawgs Travel to Steamboat

July 23, 2022
An absolutely incredible day that included one of my favorite hockey moments of all-time as Declan Farmer went one on one against Curtis McElhinney. Great job by Vladan Chase in organizing a weekend to remember, a weekend of friendship, family, and giving back. It was a long day, but one that was worth every second. And the icing on the cake came when we took in the Steamboat Springs rodeo with…

Survivor Game

July 14, 2022
Each year the Survivor Game is the highlight of Dawg Bowl for me. Addressing a locker room full of real hockey heros is truly second to none as cheers and tears are in abundance as I share some of the stories that make up the room. The idea of the Survivor Game was hatched quite accidentally over post game beers with myself, Danny Packard and Steve Jouflas. Who knew that over ten years later t…

Thank you Mountain Time!

July 13, 2022
Special thanks to Alex, Will, Decker and the rest of the crew at New Belgium for my new custom Mountain Time jersey that showed up at the DN office today! The NB crew steps up every year as our Dawg Bowl beer sponsor quenching the thirst of hundreds of players and volunteers!! This one was an awesome surprise and even has a “C”, and personalized with my name and number! I’m a big fan of hockey…

Peter McNab is in the House!

July 9, 2022
It was a terrific afternoon spent with the legendary Peter “Maxey” McNab and the remarkable Christian Moreno. One is a two time liver cancer survivor and the other is in the midst of his fight, but getting the upper hand. We talked about health, family, the Avs, DU and just about everything in between. As usual, Peter shared some of his incredible stories that never get old, and this time even…

Goodbye Smalls, you’ll be Missed!

July 8, 2022
It’s tough to say “goodbye” to your favorite “partner in crime” of all time! Over the last three years I have made more memories and witnessed more powerful moments than any time in my entire life, and each time Mike “Smalls” Freeman was right by my side. I’ve watched Smalls touch lives, change lives and even save lives. Our cause is one that can’t be measured monetarily, but is measured inste…

Hockey is for everyone!

July 7, 2022
Lots of memories from  , but perhaps my fondest was putting myself the shoes, or should I say skates, of some amazing young men. As part of this year’s Dawg Bowl we held a blind hockey game for the first time! The game included visually impaired players from across the country taking on a group of Dawg Nation players wearing glasses to emulate various forms of blindness. I wore glasses that mi…

Do you Believe in Miracles?

June 29, 2022
Well I do. Under the tutelage of the incredible Mike “Smalls” Freeman I have seen firsthand what patience, love and selflessness can accomplish. When Van Stone first came to our offices last August it seemed obvious that this once gifted hockey player would never skate again, let alone play hockey. A traumatic brain injury in 2018 nearly took Van’s life and robbed him of his speech, motor skil…

Jerry and his BIG Heart

June 29, 2022
Over the last ten years I have received close to fifty signed Avalanche jerseys, but believe it or not, every single one has ended up in an auction to help others……until now! On Tuesday afternoon, Sergeant Jerry DeVaul paid a visit to Dawg Nation headquarters to thank me for the support I have provided to the disabled community, specifically the sled hockey community. As a token of his gratitu…
