The NHL, and the Avs in particular, do a fantastic job on their annual Hockey Fights Cancer night. This is a special night for me on so many levels, but this year was just a little more special. Back in February of 2009 I was the captain of ordinary beer league team called the Dawgs. Our tight knit group included a 20 year old free spirited student named Danny Packard. We all loved Danny and were collectively rocked to the core when Danny shared he had cancer. That predicated the very first “passing of the hat” that a couple years later became DAWG Nation Hockey Foundation.
That same kid that was facing the fight of his life is now a husband, a father of four, a CEO and cancer free!! Last night Danny was honored in front of sellout crowd at Ball Arena as we packed a suite to celebrate our remarkable friend.
