Paul Zancanelli has been a hockey player since he was 4 years old. He played for the Hyland Hills Jaguars throughout his youth and HTB in high school. He went on to play adult league hockey and was going to be playing in a hockey tournament the weekend following his car accident on March 16, 2023. Paul played every position on the ice including goalie growing up. He has a tremendous passion for hockey and shows that today as a fan from the stands.
He was not given much chance at survival and then followed by a very grim outlook for what life would look like if he did survive. He spent 3 weeks in Neuro ICU, 4 weeks in Neuro Sciences Center, 3 months at Craig Hospital inpatient, followed by 7 months at Craig Hospital outpatient. He has exceeded all initial expectations from doctors but still has a very long road ahead to recovery. He literally has to relearn everything. Paul fights hard through therapy nearly every day with hopes of regaining as much of a normal life again as possible. Paul is still in a wheelchair and needs assistance with most daily activities today. He lives with his mother, and her home needs remodeling to allow Paul access to things we all take for granted like a warm shower. Paul has had a tremendous amount of support from family and friends so far but still needs more as the road to recovery is a long one. When the first Neuro said Paul’s recovery would be measured in months and years, not days and weeks, he was not kidding.
Please consider donating to Paul and help him on his long road to recovery.
