Meeting a Hockey Hero

Published

I’ve been a sports fan my entire life and my very first sports heroes wore the orange, white and black of the Denver Spurs. One of my most vivid childhood memories was when my dad took me to my first Spurs game in 1973. I still remember the opponent, the score, the smell of the arena, the obnoxious lady behind me, and mostly how magical that night was. Well last week I was blessed to meet one of those childhood heroes. The usual “no coincidences” had me wearing a Spurs jersey when I sat down with Spurs defenseman Jim Holdaway. This was part of our “Stand Up for Dawg Nation” night where Jim was there to support Shawn Leonard, our recipient that night and a pupil of old number 3! Jim made a special night even more special by signing a vintage Denver Spurs souvenir stick for me which I will cherish forever. Here’s to our childhood heroes! Especially the ones who turn out to be as great as our childhood minds have made them out to be!
