Live Life to its Fullest!

Published

I am blessed to have chosen a life that allows me into the lives of individuals and families during some of the most challenging times of their lives. This is something that I cherish almost more than anything and never take for granted.

These journeys are always filled with hope, resilience, determination and love, but sometimes end in heartbreak. And more often than not, there is a “no coincidence” or two along the way.

Today’s “no coincidence” comes in the form of Osteosarcoma, or bone cancer. Over the last month I’ve had the incredible pleasure of getting to know Hunter Murphy. Hunter and I have seemingly squeezed in a lifetime full of memories in just six short weeks. Including meeting NHL players, skating with the pros, and even winning a championship together! This week Hunter endured a four hour life changing surgery in which a large portion of his cancer riddled right leg was removed. The doctors are optimistic that the cancer was localized and Hunter is about to begin his long road to recovery. Certainly not out of the woods, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see this amazing kid back on skates in 2025! Survivor Game?

Today. I turned my attention to another incredible young warrior that faced a similar battle with bone cancer. On June 24th, Quincy Rohrbach lost her two year battle with Osteosarcoma and today we celebrated a life well lived. My eyes teared up when one of Quincy’s uncles came up to shake my hand and introduce himself. He then tearfully showed me that he keeps the “goodbye” post that I wrote on his phone and reads it often. He shared that all the nurses read it too making me realize how powerful our words of love, encouragement and compassion can be. All I could do was say “thank you” and share an emotional hug.

Life is so precious and absolutely nothing is guaranteed, so live yours like Quincy and Hunter. They are both showing us what living life to its fullest looks like!
