Giving Back to Sean Hixenbaugh

Part of the Hockey and Ice Skating Family

Sean has been actively involved as a supportive part of the skating world for nearly 20 years. As the father of a figure skater, Sean has been supporting his daughter Ellie since age three. Ellie became an accomplished Disney on Ice skater. Sean and his family have also been instrumental in helping Lance Jaeger and Foothills Event Management LLC with their hockey tournaments. DAWG Nation has been honored to be a recipient of these tournaments.

Always Active

Sean has always been an active guy including riding dirt bikes and wrestling his whole childhood, and now he loves riding his bicycle, golfing, and paddle boarding. Sean and his wife Cheryl are also avid hockey fans who love the Avalanche and watch every game together.

Accident Results in Loss Of Right Foot

In early June 2020, Sean was out riding his bicycle when he was hit by a car. This accident resulted in him having to get his right foot amputated as well as have some other surgeries to fix and close other wounds (including 2 skin grafts). Because of the extent of his injuries, he was in the hospital and rehab center for a total of 17 days and then was released home.

Sled Hockey

Since then, Sean was fitted with a prosthetic and joined DAWG Nation in a try sled hockey clinic sponosred by Aces Hockey Academy and Colorado Sled Hockey. This time it was Ellie who was supporting her dad as she was right by his side as he was learning to play sled hockey. We were proud to have Lance Jaeger on hand to help present a check to Sean and his family for $3500 to help with medical bills and the cost of the prosthetic.

We were proud to be a part of your first sled hockey day Sean!
