As we put Dawg Bowl XV in the rearview mirror, I finally have a few moments to reflect on an amazing five days. The week was certainly filled with many special memories but for me some of my favorite moments were spent with the youngsters that I affectionately call “Cappy’s kids”.
I hear often how today’s youth just don’t have the drive or desire of generations past, but I’ve got to say I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by several incredible kids that certainly defy that premise.
Hunter and Beckett worked tirelessly selling hotdogs in the blazing heat and then donated back an eye popping $1,000 to the cause! Ethan all the way from MN was welcoming teams and players with me! Porter stepped up to coach the Lallier Legend Dawgs! The Auten boys never say “no” as they cleaned up, looked up stats, visited locker rooms, and ALWAYS greet me with a smile and a hug! Blake was delivering the Dawg Bowl trophy and making sure the that our main sponsor was recognized! Mason, not a kid anymore, but will always be one to me, is now my intern and absolutely crushed it as my right hand man. And the “cherry on top” was sharing the broadcast booth with the one and only Cooper “Coop” Tippett! We had an absolute blast doing the final game of the tourney together!
