All of us in DAWG Nation, hearts breaking, send out our deepest sympathy to the Guentensberger family as we remember Rylie, who passed away 5/26/2017. This free spirited, energetic soul will be dearly missed by anyone and everyone that she touched in her short life.
The Guentensbergers are a family that is always on the move – whether it be hockey, mountain biking, camping or triathlon – Ziggy, Meghann, Rylie and Tanner are always front and center, ready to coach, encourage and support their family of teammates.
This past Saturday, April 29th, 2017 was no exception. Meghann headed out for a quick stop at a local running shop to find new shoes for Meghann’s Ironman Boulder training, with Riley along to support her mom. While the pair were trying on shoes, the unthinkable happened – a car crashed into the shop, devastating the building and critically injuring Rylie.
Rylie, a seventh grader at Aspen View Academy in Castle Rock, is now in critical but stable condition in the PICU of Denver’s Children’s Hospital. She is a gifted athlete, an excellent student and an avid community supporter in her own right — whether it be shaving her head for St. Baldrick’s Challenge or hosting a 5K to raise awareness for puppy mills.
Life is a beautiful thing…And to think, we all complain about it (I know I do all the time). And yes, things may not be the greatest, but just make the best of each situation. Even the bad parts. Life is a privilege, so treat it like that. Rylie Guentensberger, March 2017, age 12
