Evan’s medical bills are astronomical.

Evan Hanlon

Evan Hanlon is a Colorado Native who started playing roller hockey around the age of 8. When Evan turned 18, he joined a team in Blackhawk and quickly became one of the highest scoring and most valuable players on the roster. Fast forward a few years and Evan is now bartending for his old Blackhawk team captain, Garrett Ladd, at ‘Bout Time Pub & Grub. About 2 months ago

Evan started losing a bit of weight. He figured it was something he could fix himself as he was eating right, still skating, he didn’t really feel bad, but he didn’t have insurance. Well it got bad, and one day Evan called his dad who took him to urgent care where they took a blood sample and immediately sent Evan to the emergency room.

The doctors say Evan would have died hours later if he hadn’t made the call. He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Now Evan looks much better, he’s back to work and hoping to play hockey soon. He will have to take insulin 4 times a day for the rest of his life. His medical bills are astronomical and he’s in a world where he can never be without insurance again. Insurance is super expensive on a bartender’s pay, but according to the law, Evan makes too much money to qualify for Medicaid.
