St. Louis:
A special night for DAWG Nation as we had an inaugural check presentation from our St. Louis Chapter to a hockey dad and player Chad Bomerschein. Chad is recovering from a TBI and the St. Louis boys met his deductible head on with a check!
A LOVE OF HOCKEY THROUGH THE BLUES
Chad Bomerschein didn’t not grow up playing hockey, but found a love for hockey watching the St. Louis Blues. That love continued to grow as he signed up his sons for skating lessons approximately eight years ago. After watching from outside the ice he decided to grab some skates and help out the little ones stand on their skates and push the buckets around on the ice. His biggest thrill is to see the little guys light up when they start skating around without the buckets.
COACH BOMER
As the kids grew, he decided to help on the ice with his younger son’s team in 6U as an assistant coach. He also helped out with multiple seasons with the older son in 10U and again with his younger son in 10U. For the 2021-2022 season, Chad decided he was done coaching. His boys had moved on past his skills and he wanted to see them progress from the sidelines. This coaching inspired Chad to give it go himself. Over the years, he had the urge to play on his own team and started out with roller hockey. He quickly moved on to ice hockey and fell in love with playing.
A TERRIBLE MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT
Sadly, in late September, right after the season started, Chad had a terrible motorcycle accident. This accident changed his life forever. He had a traumatic brain injury, he broke his skull, back, neck, ribs, and had multiple other injuries. He will have a few more surgeries to repair his skull and shoulder in the near future.
ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY
Chad has been recovering well and has even attended his boys’ hockey practices and games. His dream is to play hockey again. He fully believes that is will happen. While DAWG Nation has jump started the Bomerscheins for 2022 with a $2,000 check to help cover the annual deductible, we know this will be a long road to recovery.
